High-top Patrick Ewings-my aunt got them for me. SLAM: Do you remember kicks you wore or really wanted when you were a kid?ĬW: Yeah. SLAM: You never worried about the low-tops messing up your ankles?ĬW: Nah, you get taped-the tape job in the NBA is better than the support of a shoe anyway. So mine were low-tops, and yeah, I loved ‘em. Back then they wanted everybody to have high-tops, and I was like, Guys, I gotta wear my shoes with my jeans. As a player you always dream of having your own shoe, and I remember how hard I fought to keep them low-tops. Then I just remember being excited showing people my shoe (the Nike Air Max CWs). SLAM: Do you have any specific sneaker memories that you cherish?ĬW: The first shoe that I wore in the NBA was the shoe that David Robinson and I had together (the Nike Air Unlimited). I was gone two or three years before all that. But I’m a fan of basketball and shoes, and you gotta listen to the fans with shoes, and I think they stopped listening to the fans. But I told them when I left that it was gonna end-not ‘cause of me. We set some pretty big earmarks that year-I had the chrome shoe that did really well for DaDa. SLAM: You had a pretty big role with DaDa during your playing days, right?ĬW: Yeah, when I signed with DaDa I actually ran the company. I don’t know if Nike’s investing, but I’d love to have my shoe re-released.ĬW: Nah, it’s out of my hands. I’m releasing a book next year, so it’d be nice to release a shoe with the book or something like that. Did you have a part in that?Ĭhris Webber: I knew about it. Hopefully there’s something a little more special with a remix next year. SLAM: DaDa rereleased the infamous Supreme CDubbz last year. (The chrome DaDa Supreme CDubbz he wore during the 2002 All-Star Game are, for better or worse, undeniably legendary, so much so that the company felt the need to re-release them in early 2013.)ĭuring a break in an NBA on TNT telecast in New Orleans, Webber-who now works as an analyst for Turner Sports/NBA TV-sat in a hotel suite and spoke candidly about his sneaker history. But most notably, though, C-Webb made a ton of shoe-related headlines for his time spent as the President of DaDa, the apparel/kicks company he repped from ’02-03. He began with Nike, teaming with David Robinson to wear the Nike Air Unlimiteds before switching to his signature Nike Air Max CWs, then moved on to Fila, AND 1 and Reebok before retiring in 2008. So even with the Rookie of the Year title in his trophy case, Webber had to rebuild his image and endorsements from scratch.Chris Webber represented a handful of sneaker brands during his 15-year NBA career. With its back to the wall, Golden State agreed to a sign-and-trade deal one month into his second season to the Washington Bullets. He exercised a one-year escape clause in his contract, which signified he was ready to leave the team. And with a tarnished image and past history it seemed as though unless Nelson went, Webber wanted out. However, the feud with his coach was beyond the point of control. With stats like that, it was no surprise when he was named the 1993-1994 NBA Rookie of the Year, beating out guys like Penny. Webber became the first NBA rookie to attain 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists, 150 blocks, and 75 steals. This wasn’t cool with the young man and their distaste for each other continued throughout the season. Nelson wanted to play quick and fast, with Webber often in the post and sometimes playing center. But as much as people wanted to check out his sneakers and his game the media attention was more focused on an ugly and very public feud with his coach. Sneaker fans were excited as it looked like Webber and Nike would continue their history from college into the NBA. He showed early on that he was ready for the NBA, showing off his vast skillset on a nightly basis. So Webber started his NBA career as a Golden State Warrior under coach Don Nelson. Chris Webber in Nike Air Flight Huarache Chris Webber in Nike Air Maestro photo via Getty However, he would not team up with Shaq or play for Orlando as he was dealt to the Golden State Warriors for Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway and a number of picks. The decision to come out after his sophomore year seemed like the right choice as he was the #1 pick during the 1993 NBA Draft, the first time a sophomore was chosen first since Magic Johnson back in 1979. Looking to legitimately make money while playing basketball, Webber entered the league with a lot of hope and hype behind him. Most importantly for fans, ended the Fab Five. When Chris Webber made the decision to enter the NBA draft in 1993, it marked the end of an important era of NCAA basketball history.

I liked Tetris 99 (to a certain extent) and Super Mario Bros 35, but Pac-Man 99 was kind of a "just there" game for how boring it was to me in pale contrast and the lack of sense of "incentives" from online matches didn't help either Tetris 99 gave you Special Themes (via Maximus Cup events), Super Mario Bros 35 gave you stages to "practice" in, and Pac-Man 99.I guess nothing (as far as I knew from the few matches I played from it) and I don't consider its "paid DLC" themes to be on the same league as the other rewards the other NSO games provided you with for participating in online matches.Įither way, I would say that I'm sad to see Pac-Man 99 go (for online services), but I personally didn't care about it at all and therefore, I'm (much) more sad to see Super Mario Bros 35 leaving the building to be "replaced". We see many commonalities and synergies between CCleaner’s community and ours that we want to leverage. It remains to be seen if the acquisition will impact the product portfolio of Piriform and Avast in the long run.Īvast hints at potential synergies between the company's community and the Piriform community. While it does not reveal any plans, it appears to be something that Avast wants to leverage. That's good news for users of CCleaner and other Piriform products. Our existing performance optimization products, Avast Cleanup and AVG TuneUp, will remain available. We will maintain the Piriform products separately from our current Avast optimization portfolio, and Piriform customers can rest assured they will continue to get the attention and service they are used to. Piriform’s technology and products are extremely robust. Moreover, both CCleaner and Avast are known for their innovative and lightweight products. Avast itself has Avast Cleanup and AVG TuneUp in its portfolio already (the company acquired AVG recently as well). The company started out as a producer of high quality Windows programs, but has created an Android and Mac OS X version of CCleaner in the past to branch out to other platforms.Īccording to Avast's announcement, CCleaner is used by 130 million users of which 15 million are using the Android version of the application.Īvast announced that it plans to run Piriform products separately from current Avast products. Windows 11 has decided to hide context menus. The list is pretty long, but here are the top things that have pushed me over the edge: While some of these changes have been great, many have been terrible. Since Windows 8, Microsoft has been pushing an update to its interface and dumping any interface that still looks like it was built in Windows 98. As you will find out, it wasn’t that simple. However, since the release of Windows 8 and the interface changes Microsoft continues to push I decided to change my daily driver to Linux. The only time I used Linux was when I needed to bypass security controls on our home computer so that I could game when I was supposed to be doing my homework. When I reached the end of high school, I had a life goal: to work for Microsoft. I grew up with it at home, at school, and later on at work. Microsoft Windows has been a part of my entire life. Yes, that’s it.” Linus Torvalds – Creator of the Linux Kernel Is Windows the Answer? I may however relocate it again to my Plextor SSD just to speed up some installs.“The Linux philosophy is ‘Laugh in the face of danger’. The AppData\Local\Temp folder can also get severely bloated with some installers, so last night I used a nifty trick I found to bring up Advanced System Settings, then in the Environment Variables page I relocated it to my 6TB HDD. I was speaking mainly of drive space bloat there though. You are right about updates though, they are not the cause of the RAM bloat problem. The only time it wouldn't be are cases where the PC spec is likely barely good enough for the game being played, or even slightly below min spec. When it gets to the point where during the OS install they have pages that tell you certain telemetry driven features are optional and can be turned off, that's a clue that a tool like O&O is a good idea.Īs I also said, being able to free up 1GB of the 1.4 GB Atlas does just by turning off said telemetry is plenty adequate. So I wouldn't put a lot of stock into what he says about Atlas, ESPECIALLY when all he does to warn you of it's shortcomings is momentarily plaster a list of what it can't do, vs warning you verbally.Ĭlick to expand.Like I said, I trust my own judgement when it comes to Windows 10 and up settings. At least freeing up telemetry accounts for a little over 2/3 of the bloat, which I find is good enough if you have adequate spec.Īs far as LTT, the thing you have to understand about Linus, is while he talks a big game about being sincere with his reviews, especially what he says about Nvidia and buying all the hardware he tests, when it comes to ads he does for his sponsors, he seems to not toe that line. Most of that other 400 MB Atlas talks about freeing up is likely associated with updates. I find just turning off telemetry frees up roughly 1GB RAM. I also make SURE I run Disc Cleanup after every update, with every single option checked, then I make SURE I click Clean up system files before doing the cleanup. Of course it also disables any apps that use telemetry, and Windows 10 and up has plenty of them, but a tool like O&O can with one click turn off all telemetry, and turn it back on. This is why I find just disabling all telemetry is the best compromise. The sad realty is, IF Atlas gets to the point where it DOES allow updates, it's likely going to drop it's performance hugely, as updates are always a big part of Windows bloat. The bottom line is, if it removes updates, meaning you get no security updates, you're at risk every time you get on the net. Generally, infantry will cost manpower to requisition, fuel will be used to call in light armour and tanks, and munitions will be used for squad upgrades and abilities such as artillery barrages and air strikes. You command squads of soldiers and equipment from that conflict within engagements in a real time setting, where you need to take and hold land for resources such as manpower, fuel and munitions in order to fuel your war machine. To begin with, Company of Heroes is a series which features real time tactical battles that take place in WW2. So how does it stack up compared to its predecessors? Gearing Up For War It’s been a while since the last release but the next entry into the series, Company of Heroes 3, recently released. Company of Heroes 1 still holds up well even against some modern games, and Company of Heroes 2 was a flawed but extremely fun entry that solidified the franchise as a staple of my steam collection. Back in 2007 I was addicted to the first game and it helped my through quite a few years of my childhood, which has left me with a bit of a soft spot for the franchise. While fun and frenetic, Company of Heroes 3 feels like an incomplete game Until these are addressed, and maybe with a price drop, strategy fans might get more out of a spin with an older Total War title. It has issues, but Company of Heroes 3 is a solid new entry to a beloved series. Graphics are pretty good, played from an angled top-down "isometric" view, but zooming in reveals outdated character models. Mutliplayer works better than the single-player campaign, balancing infantry and vehicle combat, and delivering intense and memorable battles. That being said, there's a lot to like about the multiple ways to play (including the more linear and story-heavy North African campaign), or testing different and unique company playstyle options, and it's neat to explore parts of WWII's real events not as commonly covered in interactive entertainment. There were also odd restrictions, like not being able to save the game in the middle of the lengthy tutorial missions, or not knowing where and how to spend Skill Points awarded for progressing through the campaign. What's more, there are bugs, such as pop-up screens that can't be closed, slowdown when a lot of action is onscreen, and some forces that wouldn't move, or they weren't moving to where they were instructed to go on an airfield. Unfortunately, in the second (more turn-based) campaign, enemy AI wasn't very challenging, and ultimately the campaign experience wasn't very gratifying. Experimentation is welcome, as you figure out how to tackle the task at hand with the units, weapons and environment you're presented with. As an RTS (or real-time strategy game), one of the two main campaigns in Company of Heroes 3 is an exciting exercise in tactical battles, resource management, and some quick thinking (and pivoting) based on the mission parameters. But Company of Heroes 3 has its share of problems, including several bugs that hurt the overall experience, and mediocrity in one campaign. This is worth playing, not just for fans of the franchise, but also for any strategy game lovers and WWII buffs. New customization options allow you to summon help from a varied cast of specialist units and elite squads. Command ground, air and naval forces and build supply lines to crush enemy advances, with destructible environments, and with new flanking moves and infantry breaching mechanics (to flush enemy units from their hiding spots). Serving as the biggest game in the series' history, Company of Heroes 3 includes two large campaigns (especially the Italian one) and four unique multiplayer and cooperative ("co-op") factions, including large skirmish battles. While a RTS (real-time strategy) like its predecessors, newly introduced features include "Full Tactical Pause," which lets you stop the action and give commands without the pressure of time, and a turn-based dynamic campaign map, both of which are designed to give more control over the battlefield, and make the game more accessible to newcomers to the genre. In COMPANY OF HEROES 3, players return as the Allied Forces, but this time the game focuses on the Mediterranean theatre of war (through the rolling hills of Italy and deserts of North Africa), folding in deeper strategic choices to the mix of action and tactics. The little amount of graphics that you find in Alter Ego is kept functional. Infancy: The blooming talent as expressionist artist is quickly nipped in the bud by parental philistinism.
